Reporting when the power goes out. Searching for answers when disinformation obscures the situation. This lecture examines the conditions under which journalists work in Ukraine - amidst security risks, Russian propaganda, and the difficult situation in the annexed Donbas region. It also focuses on how Ukrainian media report on topics beyond war news - such as social reforms and the country’s path toward EU membership.
Daria Meshcheriakova knows the answers firsthand: as a journalist for European Pravda and POLITICO in Kyiv, she witnesses Ukraine’s political and social transformation up close. Her work focuses on the country’s European integration and Russian influence on international sports organizations - a topic that illustrates the far-reaching impact of disinformation and power politics. She studied political science at the National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy and at Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
