Our Researchers Meet International Visiting Fellows
On 9 July 2026, in Regensburg, the visiting fellows from our center presented their current projects and took the opportunity to engage in professional and personal exchange with their colleagues from Germany, England, France, Japan, Canada, Kosovo, Poland, Serbia, the Czech Republic, and the United States.
As part of our fellowship program, seven researchers from Ukraine came to Regensburg in July 2026. A total of 41 Ukrainian scholars are receiving support in 2026 to work on their research projects related to Ukraine; the same number of scholars (41) received fellowships of our center in 2025. Apart from that, five media professionals received funding through our media fellowship program, which supports media projects on Ukraine.
Our visiting researchers contribute valuable perspectives and expertise to our center through long-term, short-term, or sur-place fellowships. While short- and long-term fellows work and conduct research on-site in Regensburg, the sur-place fellowships are designed to support and stabilize academic life in Ukraine during these difficult times.

Thanks to the exceptional concentration of Area Studies institutions in Regensburg, researchers can not only focus on their academic work during their fellowships but also establish new professional contacts, gain interdisciplinary perspectives, and become part of an international research network.
Beyond our fellowship program, visiting scholars have come to Regensburg through a range of programs and funding opportunities available through Leibniz ScienceCampus "Europe and America in the Modern World," the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS), the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies (UR), seeFField (funded by the Volkswagen Foundation), the Regensburg European American Forum (REAF), the Institute for East European Law at the University of Regensburg, Philipp Schwartz Initiative and Humboldt Fellowship Program of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
“Denkraum Ukraine” / “Think Space Ukraine" at the University of Regensburg is funded by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) through the funds from the Federal Foreign Office (AA).
