Paper Bridge meets Denkraum Ukraine: Ukrainian-German literary encounters in Regensburg

On November 24, 2025, the literature and art project Eine Brücke aus Papier / Paper Bridge is coming to Regensburg at the invitation of “Denkraum Ukraine” / “Think Space Ukraine” for a dialogue with Ukrainian and German writers.

Even in the fourth year of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, traveling to and from Ukraine is fraught with complications, dangers, and uncertainties. This makes it even more remarkable that Ukrainian writers are undertaking this journey to Regensburg to talk about the situation and present their new texts.

Writers Yuri Durkot, Bohdan Kolomijtschuk, and Oleksandr Irwanez are coming to Regensburg from the cities of Lviv and Rivne. All three have experienced the war in very different ways.

The writer Natalka Sniadanko from Lviv, who fled the war with her children in 2022, first to Marbach and then to Leipzig, will reflect the perspective of a refugee author in Regensburg.

Conversely, Munich-based writer Dagmar Leupold traveled to Ukraine in 2023 with the Paper Bridge to the city of Uzhhorod. In her recently published poetry collection “Small Talk,” from which Dagmar Leupold will read in Regensburg, she also responds to the war in our present day.

Halyna Kotowski from Lviv will accompany the event as an interpreter.
